La Campana della Pace a Sant'Angelo in Theodice
CategoriaInaugurated on May 18, 2008, the Bell of Peace stands majestically near the "Bridge of the Four Battles" on the Gari River, in the district of Sant'Angelo in Theodice, part of the municipality of Cassino. This site was the scene of bloody clashes during World War II, particularly during the four battles of Montecassino. The bell was created by Severino De Santis and cast at the Pontifical Marinelli Foundry in Agnone. It weighs 1,380 kg and has a base diameter of 132 cm.
Every day, the Bell of Peace tolls at 12:00 PM, commemorating the soldiers of various nationalities who lost their lives in the battles for Montecassino. Engraved on the bell are a scene from the battle of the Rapido River, the coats of arms of the Municipality of Cassino and the Abbey of Montecassino, the image of the Pietà, and the inscription in English "The sun shines again" as a message of hope that all wars may cease.
The Bell of Peace has become a focal point for commemorative ceremonies and reflections on peace; annual events remember the sacrifices of the soldiers and civilians involved in the conflicts, promoting a message of reconciliation and hope for future generations.
