Days of the historic residences of Lazio
EventsThe Days of Historical Residences of Lazio represent a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the cultural and architectural heritage of the region. During these events, numerous historical residences, castles, villas, and convents open their doors to the public, offering free guided tours and cultural activities. Along the stretch between Roccasecca and San Vittore del Lazio, several historically significant residences participate in this initiative, allowing visitors to discover treasures often inaccessible.
Among the participating residences stands out the Convent of San Francesco in Roccasecca. The Church of San Francesco, annexed to the convent, was built at the end of the 15th century and later restored in the mid-18th century, adopting a Baroque style enriched with elegant stucco decorations. The interior of the church reflects the art and devotion of the era, offering visitors an atmosphere of deep spirituality. The convent is developed over two main levels, with an attic, and consists of four distinct architectural bodies, harmoniously connected by a central cloister. This cloister, the pulsating heart of the structure, hosts a lush garden and an ancient well, symbolizing life and meditation. Notable elements include the entrance portal, adorned with friezes and symbols that recall local tradition, and a stone bifora located at the junction between the church and the convent, a testament to the craftsmanship of the time. This Franciscan structure, dating back to the 13th century, is a significant example of religious architecture of the era.
During the open days, the convent not only offers guided tours but also hosts a series of cultural events such as academic presentations, music lessons for children, and creative workshops, making the visit an educational and engaging experience for all ages.
The Days of Historical Residences of Lazio typically take place over two weekends during the year, and entry to the participating residences is free, offering everyone the opportunity to discover the historical and cultural heritage of the region at no additional cost.
